‘Folly, Fatuity, and Futility’ | The Weekly Standard

‘Folly, Fatuity, and Futility’ | The Weekly Standard:
A great editorial, putting Obama in historical perspective, as well as our obligation.

Mosaic Magazine - Jews of the World, Unite!

Mosaic Magazine - Jews of the World, Unite!:
Basically, this article speaks both of the threat to European Jewry, French Jewry in particular, and the need for US Jewry to be prepared to step up and assist with resettlement efforts to Israel, which will most likely come. This past year, French Jewish aliyah to Israel was up 200% -- but still only a trickle, at 2,600 souls, but this trickle can become a torrent. Tikkun olam starts at home, my Jewish American brethren.

Foreign Affairs: Obama’s retreat from empire | JPost | Israel News

Foreign Affairs: Obama’s retreat from empire | JPost | Israel News:

Two views about the decline in American leadership, from Israel (this article) and from Saudi Arabia (the preceding blog posting from the WSJ -- http://commonsenseforaworldpopulatedbyhumans.blogspot.com/2013/11/an-ally-frets-about-american-retreat.html ).
They sound remarkably similar. More reason to try to get the annoyance of the Palestinians out of the way, which is the only thing standing in the way of an Israeli-Sunni regional entente. The Saudis have to find a way to deliver the Palestinians.

EU holds contradictory view of settlements in West Bank and Western Sahara | GlobalPost

EU holds contradictory view of settlements in West Bank and Western Sahara | GlobalPost:
By applying a clear double standard to Morocco and Israel, in the words of the author of this well written piece, "The message Europe wants to send Israel through its tough diplomatic line is that the occupation of the West Bank and settlements are the source of its diplomatic problems. But by not holding any other occupation to the same standard, Europe sends another message: it is not the settlements that bother Brussels — rather, it is Israel itself."

Obama’s Suez-- Repeating Ike's Mistake

Obama’s Suez:
"The situation that President Obama now confronts is uncannily similar. There are enduring patterns to American relations with the Middle East, and President Obama would be well advised to study the war that erupted on Eisenhower’s watch. He should treat it as a cautionary tale—not least because the two European powers and Israel launched parallel invasions of Egypt in October 1956."

WATCH: Caught on Tape, a U.N. Interpreter Wonders Aloud at its Israel Bashing – Tablet Magazine:
Watch this video and then tell me, why, exactly, does the United States contribute over half a billion dollars a year to the UN regular annual budget (22% of all member contributions), not including the over $2 billion in 2011 for peacekeeping activities?

Queen Rania Of Jordan: We Owe It To Our Religion To Denounce Islamic Fanaticism:
If more leaders from the Arab world spoke out like this, everyone would be better off. Hopefully Obama does nothing more to imperil Jordan.

For once, thank G-d for the French inclination to put their national interests first, second and third, and never to defer voluntarily to Washington.

No Ally Left Unpunished -- Morocco Deserves Better | The National Interest

Morocco Deserves Better | The National Interest:
"Morocco is one of America’s longest-standing allies. Ruled by a descendant of the Prophet Mohammed who therefore has no need to prove his Islamic credentials, it is a bastion of moderation—religious, social and political—in an otherwise turbulent region. The king promulgated a constitution in 2011 that allowed Islamists to play a role in the country’s governance, yet, at the same time, protects the status of religious and ethnic minorities, notably Christians and Jews, in a way that virtually no other Arab state does today. Indeed, the strongly royalist daily paper, Le Matin, lists the Jewish, Berber and secular dates on its masthead, in addition to the Muslim day of the week. The Constitution also for the first time recognizes Amazigh, the language of ethnic Berbers, who comprise a significant minority of Morocco’s population. At the same time, there is much more mutual tolerance within the majority of the Muslim community—it is not unusual to see women wearing hejab walking hand-in-hand with women whose heads are completely uncovered."

So, it is no surprise that Obama is now pissing on Morocco. 'via Blog this'

Mosaic Magazine - God’s People

Mosaic Magazine - God’s People:
An important read. Basically, "being proud to be a Jew" with no sense of religious attachment or commitment, equals no Jewish future, according to the statistics.
"The path to Jewish peoplehood in America, in other words, runs directly through religious communities. It is not just that Jews by religion are exponentially more likely to know a Jewish language, join any kind of Jewish organization, feel committed to Israel or to a larger Jewish people, or decide to raise their children as Jewish in any sense, as described above. It is that the overall decision to take Jewishness seriously involves a meaningful engagement of some kind with Jewish religion, the absence of which entails not secular Judaism in America (at least not at the statistical level—there are always exceptions) but disengagement."

The Crumbling Relationship Between the U.S., Israel, and Jews – Tablet Magazine

The Crumbling Relationship Between the U.S., Israel, and Jews – Tablet Magazine:
Very important read for all friends of Israel. I actually worked as an intern in 1981 for the writer, Adam Garfinkle, and can attest that he is both a very smart guy and a very realistic one. Like it or not,  things are changing in the US from a foreign policy perspective, big time, and everyone in the world is reconsidering their relationships and the deterrence value of American power as a result.
