Redistricting: Home to Roost - WSJ.com

This is an interesting article on one darkside of our democratic system -- gerrymandering, the redrawing of district lines to assure a party's control of a district, when done right. This is one of the more undemocratic aspects of our system, that assures high incumbency re-election rates, except when the voters rise in unified "throw the bums out" protest, as occurred in this election, or when the gerrymanderers become too greedy and try to draw lines so they take too many districts, spreading out their bedrock support too thin (as illustrated in this article). Gerrymandering is probably the most important reason why a party's taking the governorship is important, because this stink starts at the top in a state.
