Russia defends missile sale to Iran

See the Article from the Jerusalem Post below. Once again, it cannot be stressed enough that the Russians have returned in full dress to be the antagonistic adversaries of the West and liberal democracy on the world stage, seeking to destabilize or cause challenges to our foreign policy choices and influence wherever possible. It is high time we start conducting our foreign policy recognizing this threat. The first step would be too realize that we will never be able to accomplish anything meaningful on the world stage through the UN Security Counsel, where the Russian veto looms large -- better to make NATO, and the EU our multilateral organizations of choice. The Security Counsel was a near useless venue during the old War -- it is becoming that again, and the sooner we realize this and formulate alternatives, the better.

How about this bold idea: is it time yet to create a multilateral organization comprised only of the world's democracies (friendly and unfriendly), to pursue areas of common interest, human rights and stability? Could this be a new way for the US to attempt to lead the world forward on a mulitlateralist front and to change the image of the US among peoples of both the world's democracies and dictatorships? I saw an article about this several months ago in a journal -- I will try to dig it up.
